Super Junior-M Swing & Lunafly Special Guy MV Review

Posted by AyeGirl at 1:03 AM

Title: Swing
Artist: Super Junior-M
Release Date: March 24, 2014

My Say: The boys are back! The boys are back! I'll be honest, when I first got into k-pop I barely knew who Super Junior was. I knew the group's name but ask me the name of one the members or who's my bias and you lost me. Today is my first time seeing SuJu-M thanks to this video and I finally learned all the names of Super Junior's members. Before you all stone me to death, understand that its not my fault but actually all the other idols' fault for distracting me with their pretty faces as SuJu took a hiatus.
Even though I was slow to get on the SuJu train, it doesn't mean I didn't discover some of the members beforehand. Eunhyuk was the first member, when I first started to commit to k-pop and I began to venture out to variety shows. That's how I found Strong Heart and saw Eunhyuk sitting in the Boom Academy brightly showing his signature gummy smile. I later discovered Leeteuk when I looked at old episodes of Strong Heart and then I found Shingdong, Donghae, Henry, Ryeowook,  and Kyuhyun as they had their own activities, but still oblivious to the fact that they were members of Super Junior.

The video is funny, cute, sexy, and definitely one of my favorite SM videos. I didn't see the teasers for the video so I didn't know what to expect when I saw this video in my subscription list and I was pleasantly surprised by this goofy masterpiece. Siwan's magical mustache was perfect and a hot mess at the same time, it looked like he just finished eating a melted chocolate bar. I've always like Eunhyuk for his goofiness and his sick dancing is the cherry on top. The choreography was balanced enough that no one over shadowed the other. I was prepared for Eunhyuk to go wild when the dubstep dropped but I suppose he held it in and  decided to stay in sync with the group flawlessly. Ryeowook is sexier and manlier than I expected him to be,  and yes, I've never seen Ryeowook performed. I only knew Ryeowook from his radio show and from the few shows that I've watched, it didn't help him in the manly department. Nonetheless, I still loved Ryeowook, like the chic noona oppa I've always wanted. This video broke that notion instantly, Ryeowook was sexy, manly, and making my jaw drop. Excuse me Mr. Mr, where did you come from. (I might have found a new bias.) Speaking of sexy, I can't forget to mention the blinking lights towards the end of video, I thought I was in club, which this song just so happens to be great for. I can see myself now in the club and once this song comes on I'm suddenly surrounded by the SuJu-M members. I'd dance my butt off and hopefully by the end of the night a SHINee song would play.
Once I listened to this song I knew it was an anthem and reading the lyrics confirmed it. The beat of the song itself oozes empowerment and  reliance, it makes me want to jump and dance along to it in the middle of the street without a care in the world. The intro reminds me of PYT by Micheal Jackson, which is a favorite of mine, so this song had a great start but when the dubstep appeared I was a little reluctant. I clearly remember the dubstep addiction K-pop had not too long ago. Fortunately, it was blended in well and had a smooth exit unlike the many disasters in the past. This was a fabulous video and it would be a waste if you didn't watch it.

Title: Special Guy
Artist: Lunafly
Release Date: March 9, 2014

My Say: Lunafly is not your run of the mill K-pop boy band, they actually play instruments, they don't dance, and have a stronger international fan base then domestic. I've been a fan of Lunafly for a while, I use to listen to Sam's radio show on Arirang Radio but unfortunately he's no longer there. On Mondays the Lunafly members would come for their segment Lunafly Shoots. I was able to learn a lot about the boys since they replied to fans' questions. Thanks to the show I fell more and more in love with Yun. I'm positive that there are recordings of the show on YouTube or Sound Cloud and thankfully Arirang Radio is a English speaking station so no subs are needed.

Now onto the actual video, it was good but definitely could of been better. I know that it would of been hard for them to make a MV with a storyline for this kind of song so I think a performance video was the best bet. Everything was going great until I saw a visualizer, I don't understand why someone considered that a good idea. Did you lose footage, that would a decent excuse for putting in a few seconds of randomness. Speaking of randomness, why on earth is Miryo in a mysterious room with white drapes when Lunafly is on

stage and then she miraculously appears on stage. The scene where the crowd makes a passage way would of been perfect if Miryo actually walked onto the stage. Hm, maybe they lost the footage of her walking on stage too and just had to settle with the random room scene, oh, its all coming together now. (Thankfully the room wasn't completely random since Yun was in the back playing the guitar. I know this because I've watch the MV many times and I'm secretly stalking Yun) Other than those few blunders, the video was enjoyable much like Teo's cute cat-like smile.

The song is basically a guy bragging about how special and good he is. But, don't let that fool you, this song is sexy. I'm starting to get the sense that Lunafly likes to sneak in the suggestion of sex in their songs. It's definitely not vulgar which makes it fun and exciting to read or hear the lyrics. Much like Yun's beautiful voice.

 This is my chance
These electrifying emotions

For a moment, yeah oh
Softly, yeah oh
A sweet echo, echo
Can you hear it? Speak up, speak up
Slightly, yeah oh
A very special guy
--------
Doing it in a nervous way
Doing it gently
Having courage and doing it totally differently
Miryo Rap:
I used to be as dry as the desert but you got to me
Making my frozen heart beat again
I think you’re special, what you mean to me
It doesn’t seem like you’re from here
You came from the stars and not the earth
(Oh, no, I’m sorry) But who cares?
I want a nasty boy, I know you dirty

*Reads lyrics* What is this? Did I read this right, I did, OMO SEX! When I first watched the video I thought Miryo's rap was a bit unnecessary but once I read the lyrics it made complete sense. She removed the veil that was over Lunafly's lyrics and make it clear that they're dirty and nasty boys. Once in  a while, k-pop lyrics have been able to surprise me and the lyrics of this song was that one caramel candy in an already tasty box of chocolate. The song is really funky and even though it's not Lunafly's usual acoustic style, their guitar composition is true to their style. I hope you give it a listen above and tell me what you think below. Do you see the sexiness in this song or am I sex crazed? (Was I the only one that noticed the bounty of shoulder padding in this MV? Yun, Teo, Sam, and Miryo all had shoulder pads for days.)
